How wonderful it is to be able to actually exhibit in a gallery once again!

I was lucky to have had one of my paintings ‘The beauty of trees’ chosen as the art work to feature on all of the printed and online publicity for this exhibition – the photo above shows the poster with my painting on the doorway to The Babylon Gallery.  How proud am I!

I have so enjoyed being a part of the team which has organised and put on this exhibition.  Ely is a wonderful town with an enthusiastic art following and is also a town that attracts lots of visitors, many of which are sure to pop into the Babylon Gallery situated as it is close to the river, with the interest of boats and the nearby Peacock’s cafe and vintage ice cream van.

The exhibition is running at The Babylon Gallery, Ely, 3rd – 26th September 2021, and is open 12 – 4 pm Tuesdays to Sundays. Closed on Mondays.

I have 3 framed and 4 unframed paintings on show this time as well as a selection of greetings cards. All are available for purchase.

These are the framed paintings that I am exhibiting –

‘Heathland trees’

This piece was inspired by sketches from my walks through the trees high on Newmarket Heath during the times when walks had to stay close to home. I loved the colours of the leaves when the autumn sun shone through the trees. Although it is lovely to travel and go to new and different places, we can always find lots to inspire us closer to home if we look carefully and creatively.

‘Sentinels’

Inspired again by walks through the trees high on Newmarket Heath. These two trees always looked as if they were determinedly keeping guard as they marked the boundary between the wooded area and the open heathland looking across to Newmarket town and beyond. On a fine day even Ely Cathedral can be seen from here!

‘Lackford waters’

Painted on site at Lackford Waters, one of my favourite places to walk and paint. This time I sat in an area where a new hide was being built, looking out across the water. Knowing an area well allows me to to be freer in my approach and I am happy to concentrate on the colours and my feelings of expanse in painting here.
